Clamour
March 24th, 2009
At the Western Front
303 East 8th Ave. @ Scotia

Arm-in-arm with a host of other leading new music organizations, the Redshift Music Society kicked off its 2009/10 season on October 1st with CLAMOUR. Beyond being an important (and noisy!) statement of unity in a time when funding cuts threaten to decimate the arts in BC, CLAMOUR promises exciting new music, interspersed with DJs and cash bar, in the familiar and laid-back surroundings of the Western Front.
For the October 1st presentation of CLAMOUR, Redshift presented one of Vancouver’s most dynamic musicians, MARGUERITE WIVOET. Equally arresting as both a pianist and vocalist, Witvoet will present a programme selected from her recent concert debut in Lima, Peru, including music by Francisco Huguet (El Salvador), Beat Furrer (Austria), Russell Pinkston (USA), and Enrique Iturriaga (Peru). These works showcase Witvoet as both pianist and vocalist, with the occasional interjections of pre-recorded sounds and electronica – a haunting and unforgettable intrada to Vancouver’s newest music series.

CLAMOUR will also feature the MUSIC ON MAIN ALL-STAR BAND (presented by Music on Main) performing Louis Andriessen’s Workers Union. CLAMOUR occurs every Thursday in October: check out www.sonicpresence.ca
