Call for applications: Songs of love and social cause competition



The winner of each promotion will receive prizes from Taylor Guitars, Alclair Audio and Play MPE. Nine finalists from each promotion will receive a mini press kit from BSQUARED MGMT.

“We have been leading the Love Songs and Social Cause promotion for several years,” Shane Whalen, ISC Marketing Director, told Music In Africa. “Love songs in one form or another make up the vast majority of songs written, and we added the Social Cause component a few years ago to shed light on cause-inspired art. African artists to continue to participate.

Previous African winners are Isabel Novella (Mozambique), Ya Kid K & We 3 Kings (Nigeria) and The Parlotones, Black Handed Kites, Blaze Blackheart and Pedro Barbosa (South Africa).


Participants of any age can submit entries in the following categories:

  • Alternative album for adults (AAA)
  • Contemporary Adult (AC)
  • Americana
  • Blues
  • Children’s music
  • Christian
  • Comedy / Novelty
  • Country
  • Electronic dance music (EDM)
  • Folk / Singer-songwriter
  • Instrumental
  • Jazz
  • Latin music
  • Lyrics only
  • Musical clip
  • Performance
  • Pop / Top 40
  • R & B / Hip-hop
  • rock
  • Teens
  • Unpublished
  • Unsigned only
  • World music

Participants can participate in both promotions.

The SAI accepts the following:

  • New original music.
  • Old original music.
  • Music that has already been submitted to the ISC competition.
  • A demo that is not yet marketed.
  • A previously recorded live performance with a full band.
  • A video performance recorded with a phone.

The jury will reward the winners according to:

  • Creativity.
  • Originality.
  • Lyrics (excludes songs that have no lyrics).
  • Melody.
  • Arrangement.
  • Overall friendliness.
  • Production / recording quality.
  • Voice capability.

How to register

  • To apply, applicants must create an account here before accessing the online application forms.
  • Once logged in, attendees should: Click “Add Song”, select “Stream my music / video” option and enter the streaming link from Vimeo, Facebook, Instagram, etc. Participants can also share the link from file sharing services like WeTransfer, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.
