BOONVILLE — The Boonville Concert Band will perform their third concert of the season at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 5, in the Lower Pavilion at Erwin Park.
Spectators are advised to bring lawn chairs. The concerts are free and open to the public, although donations are still accepted and appreciated, organizers said, adding that proceeds will go to the continuation of the band.
Renowned local musician and educator Martin Ischia will return to the podium for the show, which will feature 2022 Boonville Concert Band Scholarship winner Kenzie Karpinski performing “I Dreamed a Dream” from “Les Miserables.”
Karpinski, a 2022 graduate of Adirondack High School, played Fiona in the school’s production of “Shrek the Musical,” and has been involved with wind band, concert choir, jazz band and
Evergreen. She was also co-valedictorian of her class and will be majoring in chemical engineering at the University of Maine.
Karpinski also played trumpet in the Boonville Concert Band.
Additionally, the band offers lineup featuring popular acts, old and new:
• “Southwest Saga”, by Robert Sheldon, is a musical tale of the Southwest, featuring cowboy themes and soft passages illustrating vast open spaces.
• “Tritsch Tratsch Polka”, by Johann Strauss II, was first played at a concert in Vienna in 1858. Strauss created a melody dedicated to Viennese gossip.
• The ‘Bare’ Necessities, from Disney’s ‘The Jungle Book’, reminds listeners to ‘forget your worries and your conflicts’.
• The band’s marching feature, “The Thunderer” by John Philip Sousa, highlights the drum and trumpet sections.
